When should I send my invitations?
Invitations should typically be mailed 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding date, though no fewer than 8 for international or destination weddings. If save the dates were sent after the engagement, couples may opt to send invitations out closer to the wedding date (4-6 weeks before). Take into account how much time you’ll need to collect RSVPs and entree selections (usually 3-4 weeks) and be sure to give guests enough time to respond after they receive their invites.
When should I start the invitation process?
That depends on a few things. Given that invitations should be mailed between 4-8 weeks prior to the wedding date (see above), as soon as you have details for the wedding figured out, you can begin! The custom invite process can take 6-8 weeks in total, depending on the complexity of a job. Early on, consider if you’ll want calligraphy for your outer envelopes, and account 2-3 weeks on the back end of your timeline. Even if you’ll be hand-addressing them, you’ll need time for that, be sure to account for that. Another factor to consider is the design process. See below.
How long does the design process take?
You’re probably here because you love custom, bespoke things. You’re in the right place! Whether or not Four Hats completes your design, allow at minimum 3-4 weeks for this part of the process. Begin with a clear vision of what you want and like (images, pinterest boards, color palettes, and fonts are great helps) and clearly communicate that to Four Hats/your designer so translating your vision goes as smoothly as possible.
Do you offer
If you’re local to the Chicago area, yes! Four Hats is happy to meet in person and can bring paper samples and examples of suites for you to look through. Just mention early on if you’re interested in this option.
Can I receive a proof of my invite before finalizing?
Because set-up for the letterpress is so time intensive, Four Hats does not offer printed proofs at this time, but does send digital proofs of designs before printing. This is a great time to look extra close and check for spelling and accuracy.
Do you offer rush ordering?
Depending on my availability and available shipping options, Four Hats is willing to consider speeding up the process for a variable rush fee. Just ask!
What papers do you use?
Four Hats’ go-to paper stock is Crane Lettra in 110 lb or 220 lb, which is offered in Fluorescent White, Pearl White, and Ecru. For colored envelopes, we tend towards Colorplan or Gmund's color system, and for colored paper stock, we use Gmund. All pricing is set based on average costs of these materials, but if you’ve got your heart set on a different paper, let us know and we can certainly look into it.
